London's first atheist "church," the Sunday Assembly, opened its first meeting this month with a service of comedy and inspiration. "Atheists have a church," you wonder? Yes. As co-founder Sanderson Jones says, it's about enjoying the good stuff about religion, like the sense of community, but without God.

While I can't blame them for trying, I doubt they know what they're in for. Christian community doesn't happen just by showing up Sunday Morning. It's hard work. Have you ever been in a church where everyone gets along about everything? Neither have I.

True Christian community only happens when mutually sinful people mutually submit to a higher cause. You know, that whole "one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God of us all" thing. It comes from a common mission in Christ's name, and from the Holy Spirit's work, causing Christians to grow in love for one another. My prediction is that these atheists are going to find they're missing something really important in their community. Maybe they'll realize it's God. I'm John Stonestreet.
