A message you’ve heard repeatedly from us is that our real cultural battles are much bigger than politics. Elections are important, but the underlying worldview of a culture is what really drives it.
Case in point: new data shows that TV shows like Glee, The New Normal, and Modern Family, which glamorize same-sex marriage and demonize those oppose it, actually change people’s minds. According to reports, 27 percent of people said watching these shows made them more in favor of same-sex marriage. When one show The New Normal, tried to give equal time to a character espousing conservative opinions, the character was regarded as a “homophobic, racist, Romney supporter.”
So, pop culture really does capture our imagination, and we should keep that in mind when consuming it. And, we need Christians working in this sphere of culture. Not for the sake of political propaganda, but because imaginations need to be captured by the truth about the human condition.
