I don't know who won. As I record this commentary, I do not know how one of the most heated presidential elections in history turned out. But I do know this: Whichever party is celebrating and whichever party is mourning, it's not the end of the world. Life goes on, and there's still work to do. And even more important, the Kingdom of God has not been thwarted one bit.
Our hope and faith, lest we succumb to what Jacques Ellul called "the political illusion," is in no earthly power, but in the Creator and Redeemer of the universe, our Lord Jesus Christ. And beyond politics, we know the path we are on as a people is unsustainable. Nations rise and fall according to their ideals that line up with reality. Compromising the sacredness of life and marriage and embracing unsustainable behavior in the name of "freedom," is the recipe for national demise.
