As the same-sex marriage debate continues, a practice long ago outlawed may be making a comeback: polygamy.

TIME Magazine editor Belinda Luscombe recently wrote about polygamist Joe Darger, who has 23 kids from three wives — two of whom are twin sisters! The article suggests what many defenders of traditional marriage warned about: since the definition of marriage is on the table for debate, we should be willing to reexamine polygamy and polyamory.

Of course, if marriage is justified solely on the grounds of the happiness of the people involved, there is no reason to not legalize polygamy, or other forms of “marriage” that people say would make them happy. In fact, how could we say anyone’s crazy or even dangerous idea of marriage wouldn’t qualify?

One accommodation will lead to another and another and only if marriage is bigger than our happiness will we stop the rest of the marriage dominoes from falling. For ThePointRadio.org, I’m John Stonestreet.
