Tomorrow we learn the ruling from the Supreme Court on the constitutionality of "Obamacare." Which ever way the ruling goes, Christians should be clear about the impending test we face to our courage and convictions. If "Obamacare" stands, we've only seen the first of many challenges to religious freedom. The HHS mandate was a first step of implementation, and reflects our cultural confusion on issues surrounding human dignity and sexual freedom.
Many more challenges are imbedded in this legislation — some in a conflict over what counts as "universal healchare rights," and others like end-of-life questions that will arise as we try to handle the financial expenses. If Obamacare falls, we still face the challenges of healthcare costs and the complications of accomodating everyone's lifestyle choices. The debates will only get hotter. Where will we stand? We'd better decide now what our Christian convictions demand from us.
