The root of all problems? Bad ideas. I’m John Stonestreet, and this is The Point.

Holocaust survivor and Nobel peace prize writer Elie Wiesel once said that the opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference. The horrible truth of this statement was seen in a video that surfaced recently of a two-year old Chinese girl who after being hit by two cars was ignored by at least 12 people -- many who clearly saw her suffer but did nothing to help.

The video calls for soul-searching about the health of Chinese society. One Beijing psychologist blamed it on the “rapid urbanization” that results in a breakdown in relationships. Well perhaps, but what about China’s one child policy, promotion of abortion, restrictions on religious freedom, and imbedded ideas of communism -- all of which redefines and reduces human value and breeds narcissism among people and indifference towards others?

These ideas, like all ideas, have consequences. And it’s individuals like Eli Wiesel and little Wang Yue who are their victims.  I’m John Stonestreet. Let’s keep talking at thepointradio.org.
